7 Reasons Your Back Hurts

Poor posture can cause bad back pain. If you slouch at work, hunch forward while nursing, or lift heavy objects incorrectly, you could be adding to your back pain.

5. Psychological Stress

You may have heard people say that they carry their stress in their shoulders or back. It’s true.

Stress can cause pain in your shoulders and back. Stress can cause you to tense your muscles and increases tension in the trapezius muscles.

Meditation, massage, and yoga can help relieve stress that causes pain and discomfort in the back.

6. Spinal Stenosis

Another possible cause of back pain is spinal stenosis. This typically occurs in the lower back and neck.

Spinal stenosis is the gradual narrow of the spinal column. This causes the spinal cord to compress.

7. Muscle Strain

A strained or pulled muscle occurs when a muscle is torn or overstretched. This can happen when you’re fatigued or don’t use proper form when lifting heavy objects like this.

Muscle strains can be painful. If you know this is the problem, you can usually treat the strain at home.

Ice the area for 10 to 20 minutes at a time. You may benefit from a massage as well. Don’t forget to rest so your injury can heal.
