Holistic Sex and Wellness Coach Kim Anami Says Everyone Can Have High Libido

One of the prevailing messages about high libido is that you either have it or you don’t. For people who feel their sex drive isn’t what it should be, there are a myriad of accessories, medications, and top 10 lists that claim to boost, cure, or otherwise restore libido. They result in a $17 billion sexual wellness industry built on the idea that low libido is a crutch to a healthy sex life.
Yet libido is a natural human drive that is both biological and cultivated. Holistic sex and wellness coach Kim Anami believes that everyone possesses high libido but not everyone knows how to harness it. As a pioneer in holistic sex and relationship coaching, Anami looks for ways to work through physical, emotional, and societal blocks that get in the way of healthy expression of sexual desires.
Physiological and Cultural Factors That Trample Libido
Modern life can seem like a whirlwind of responsibilities, schedules, and stressors. And just as these things can affect natural processes like digestion or sleep, they can also impact libido. People from all walks of life, regardless of their gender or sexual identities, are subject to any number of contributing factors that can decrease libido. Lifestyles, relationship issues, anxiety, and depression only scratch the surface.
But figuring out what’s causing a sluggish sex drive isn’t easy in a culture that has made the topic taboo. In media and popular culture, sex is everywhere, but most people still don’t feel comfortable discussing it. “You’re not really allowed to have it, enjoy it, or have an honest and mature conversation about it,” Anami said in a recent interview. Despite the value society outwardly puts on sex, individuals are taught not to act on their desires or feel that their desires are natural and appropriate.
While some individuals face more pressing physical challenges or traumas that can create restrictions on their sexual abilities or desires, Anami believes the majority of healthy people struggle with libido not from a lack of drive, but a lack of connection to that drive. “We have this overall belief that sex is dirty or taboo, or somehow destructive rather than the creative force that it is,” Anami said. “The reason why people aren’t really embodying [it is] because of all the blocks and beliefs that they’ve taken on over the years.”
Kim Anami Encourages Candid Conversations About Libido Potential
Instead of shying away from the topic, Anami argues that individuals should be open about changes in their libido. She believes that through communication, people can override the programming that has obscured their natural sexual expression. “People don’t realize that their sex and intimate lives are capable of growth, evolution, and gratification,” she said.
To welcome that evolution, Anami encourages people to be open to learning and growing in their beliefs about intimacy. A major takeaway from her trainings is the idea that sexual satisfaction is univerally accessible. “If you’re not there yet,” she said, “it’s just because you haven’t learned how to do it. Everyone is capable of having a high libido and a deeply fulfilling, decades-long, enriched sex life.” But in order to find this fulfillment, she believes people need to dissociate from the shame they feel when discussing it. “I had some very early experiences that showed me that sex wasn’t this taboo, dirty, awful thing that it’s often purported to be in the global worldwide narrative. It’s actually a path to enlightenment, self-healing, rejuvenation and transcendence.”
Anami has dedicated her career to myth-busting beliefs that sexual connection is destined to diminish over time because libido is naturally limited resource. She encourages exploration beyond mainstream messaging about the connection between libido and sexual performance. She believes that by digging deeper and having faith in the process, everyone will discover that desire and long-lasting sexual performance are innately possible.
“My work is all about shining the light of illumination on these different areas and opening people up to the possibilities that they may not be aware of.”
The Anami Guarantee is that “Everyone can.” “They just need the tools to get there,” says Kim. “That’s where I come in.”
