F.R.I.E.N.D.S is one of the most utterly adored shows of all time. It is a classic comedy sitcom featuring the trials and ordeals and all things funny and romantic between six friends in New York City.
Surely, most of you have had that moment when you bond with a stranger over F.R.I.E.N.D.S. So, here we are, bringing you those little details from the very first episode “The One Where Monica Gets a Roommate (Pilot).”
Joey’s Bowl Cut
One definite change from the first episode that fans might quickly forget is the difference in Joey’s haircut.
Do you remember that funny “bowl cut?” We are quite sure if they hadn’t changed that look immediately in the second episode, Joey would have lost all his notorious charm.
It’s a small thing, but that circular, mushroom-shaped hair around the head, is certainly not Joey’s best look.
Phoebe’s First Song
You probably remember Phoebe’s “Smelly Cat” song, but do you remember her very first “Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens?” The song that she sings to calm down Rachel, who had just fled from her wedding.
Well, this is where Phoebe makes herself known for singing just about anything that is going on around her. And this unusual quirk of hers originates from the premiere of the show which Phoebe gets used to.
The Ring In The Lasagna
Monica is meticulously preparing the apartment for the visit of her nagging parents that is when Rachel realizes she has lost the wedding ring that she is meant to return to Barry, her almost-husband she left at the altar.
Soon, Rachel realizes that she has lost her ring in Monica’s freshly made lasagna. The fright on Monica’s face when Joey and Chandler mutilate the divine lasagna to dig the ring is one worth laughing hard on to.
Paul The Wine Guy
Paul becomes known to the friends as “Paul the wine guy”, as he delivers wine to the restaurant Monica works at. He is also Monica’s first of many comic lovers on the show.
Rachel Cuts Her Credit Cards
Freshly trying to live on her own, Rachel brings an expensive pair of boots rather than an offer letter from a company.
When friends find out that Rachel is using her father’s credit cards, they encourage her to be independent.
Friends lay out all the cards on the table, and Rachel snips each in half with scissors, stepping into a new life of self-sufficiency.
Monica Smashes The Watch
When Monica and Paul went out on a date, Paul told her that he smashed his wife’s watch who walked out on him.
So, when Monica is loathing with her friends about how Paul has tricked her, Phoebe finds Paul’s watch that he had forgotten at Monica’s apartment.
Ironically, the sad Monica gets to casually smash his watch with her foot, gaining justice.
Ross Grabs A Spoon
Just when Ross was humming about his misfortune and wife, Joey gives him a speech about how there are numerous women, just like countless kinds of ice cream. He motivates Ross to start afresh and “grab a spoon” to take joy in life.
Later, Ross asks Rachel if he could ask her out sometime, and announces to Monica that he indeed “grabbed a spoon”.
These were some of the funniest moments from the first episode of the iconic TV show.
