How to Block Websites in Safari on iPhone and iPad

The Internet is meant to be useful but with the vast variety of content available online it gets important to impose some restrictions when it comes to your child. An accidental click on a random link while browsing the web in Safari can direct you from inappropriate or adult content. In case, your children use your iPhones or iPads, they might also land to an age-inappropriate page while browsing in Safari.

 

 

To help you here, Apple has some parental control functions in iPads and iPhones to prevent a child from accidentally landing on a page they should not. With Safari in your iPads and iPhones, you can blacklist specific websites or shut off all sites except for the ones you whitelist or limit adult content. How to Limit Adult Content in Safari for iPhone and iPad

If you just want to prevent your kids from landing on websites including adult material, you may consider using the automatic settings and the blacklist feature. To do so, first ensure that you have set up Screen Time on your device.

Step 1. Open Settings from the home screen.

Step 2. Go to Screen Time.

Step 3. Select Content & Privacy Restrictions.

Step 4. Toggle the slider named Content & Privacy Restrictions to on position.

Step 5. Tap Content Restrictions.

Step 6 Choose Web Content.

Step 7. Select Limit Adult Websites.

This should limit access to all the adult websites while browsing in Safari using your iPad or iPhone.

How to Block Specific Websites in Safari on iPhone and iPad

Even after limiting adult content, sometimes, some URLs can slip through the cracks. So, if the above restrictions didn’t prove to be enough, you can always block a specific URL you want.

Step 1. Navigate to Settings from the home screen.

Step 2. Open Screen Time.

Step 3. Select Content & Privacy Restrictions.

Step 4. Now, enable the slider named Content & Privacy Restrictions.

Step 5. Tap on Content Restrictions.

Step 6. Select Web Content.

Step 7. After choosing Limit Adult Websites, tap on Add a Website under the Never Allow section.

Step 8. Enter the URL of the website you want to block. This should block the website to which you entered the URL.

Step 9. In case you want to block more such websites, select Back at the top left and repeat the process for each site.

How to Block Everything and Whitelist Only Specific Sites in Safari for iPhone and iPad

If you want to ensure that nothing goes wrong and your child sees nothing other than Disney content on your iPad or iPhone, the best bet would be, disable everything and turn on only those sites you consider permissible.

Step 1. Navigate to Settings from the home screen.

Step 2. Open Screen Time.

Step 3. Select Content & Privacy Restrictions.

Step 4. Toggle the option named Content & Privacy Restrictions.

Step 5. Tap on Content Restrictions.

Step 6. Open Web Content.

Step 7. Select Allowed Websites Only.

Step 8. Tap Add Website.

Step 9. Add the URL for the website that you would like to add to your allow list.

Step 10. If you want to add other such websites, tap Back then repeat the same procedure and add the URL to the next website.
