Croatia is blessed with over 1,200 islands, surrounded by sparkling azure waters, bounded by beautiful beaches and villages that just exude the atmosphere of days gone by. It is no wonder that Croatia is becoming more and more popular.
There are just so many places to visit that you will find it hard to decide what to see and what to miss. My particular favorite is Diocletian’s Palace.
Diocletian’s Palace, Split
This ancient palace covers a massive 31,000 sq meters. In fact, it takes up more than 50% of Split Old Town. You will be amazed by the grandeur of the architecture and marvel at how well preserved these Roman ruins are. Even today more than 3,000 residents call the palace district their home, living on a day to day basis with the marble and limestone buildings. Just imagine waking up every day to 220 homes, businesses, bars, shops, and restaurants.
Split is located in the middle section of Croatia’s lengthy Adriatic coastline and so is in a far better location than Dubrovnik when it comes to seeing more of the country (it also has better international flight connections). … Dubrovnik lies in the far south of Croatia, but still has plenty of options for day trips.Apr 17, 2017
Split is located in the central portion of the Adriatic coastline and is probably better than Dubrovnik as your base for exploring Croatia. Dubrovnik lies much further south but don’t you worry, you can still reach it easily by bus.
There is a bus company called Libertas Dubrovnik that runs around 13 buses a day between Split and Dubrovnik. It is just a four-hour journey and will allow you to see more countryside.
Stradun, Dubrovnik’s main street
A wonderful place to visit in Dubrovnik is Stradun (the main street of Dubrovnik). The street dissects the old town (between the east and west gates) and the beautiful route stretches for 300 meters along a promenade that is paved with marble. The street is bursting full of historic buildings and many shops to browse and cafes to enjoy.
Kornati Islands
Do not forget the Kornati Islands (and other islands along the coast). It is a great opportunity to enjoy this paradise for yachtsmen and a chance to try Croatia sailing opportunities. There are about 140 uninhabited islands for you to visit and explore.
Zlatni Rat Beach, Brac
On the island of Brac, you will come across a white pebble shoreline that is sculpted by the tides and currents, changing its shape accordingly. The beach has a border/backdrop of pine trees/
Historic City of Trogir
There are so many more places to visit in this extraordinary country, but is pushed to name just one more I think it would have to be the city of Trogir. This historic city, which incidentally is a UNESCO protected city is brimming with architecture from different periods of architecture. It is so full of character and a delight to browse its cobblestoned streets, outdoor cafes. Oh yes you must try the seafood while you are there relaxing
Wherever you go in Croatia, whether it be a laid back vacation, Croatian sailing, or a cultural tour, there is something for everyone in Croatia.
