The Legend of Korra to Be Made Available on Netflix From August 2020

Avatar: The Last Airbender received tremendous success when it made its comeback to Netflix in 2019. Now, Nickelodeon’s The Legend of Korra, which is a derivation on Avatar, has made its way to Netflix as well. The American fans find it very convenient now that they will be able to stream both the shows on the same platform from August 14, 2020. The Legend of Korra is a sequel to Avatar: The Last Airbender and aired on Nickelodeon premiering in 2012 and running for the next two years.

The show depicts the life and story of Aang, next in line to Avatar, and consistently receives commendation for the fact that it pushes social bounds. The show is known to present sensitive topics like the LGBTQ+ community with utmost grace and maturity, despite being a kids’ cartoon show. The Legend of Korra may have been an essential part of ViacomCBS, but it might turn out to be a bigger deal for Netflix. Avatar: The Last Airbender was an immediate hit as soon it appeared on Netflix and continues to be among the most streamed shows as per trends.

Social media platforms like Instagram have also acknowledged the fans’ love for the show by introducing Avatar filters on their apps. People who were recently made aware of the show jumped in and binged on the show, precisely what the long-time fans did as well. Worldwide quarantine and a lot of time to kill was also a motivating factor for people to acquaint themselves with the famous anime show. This popularity of the show may ensure a warm welcome for The Legend of Korra on the platform.

But all the people are confused regarding why would ViacomCBS part ways with The Legend of Korra and Avatar: The Last Airbender if they are such big hits and successes? The simple answer is that ViacomCBS has its streaming platform by the name CBS All Access that also has the license to stream the anime shows. ViacomCBS has managed to retain an awesome IP like WarnerMedia and NBCUniversal. The best part about this deal between Netflix and ViacomCBS is that even if the show had to be taken down from ViacomCBS, they could have earned from Netflix’s contract and stream on its own platform once the license lapsed. That is the primary benefit of time-bound commitments.
